Citizens Financial Helps Educate Students

Citizens Financial Bank presented a seminar to 200 seniors at Crown Point High School titled “Realities of Credit”.

Jesus Cervera, Vice President Community Affairs said, “Citizens strongly believes that the best way to serve the needs of the communities where we have banking centers is to have our staff partner with community organizations and educational institutions by contributing their support and time to those activities that are so important to community growth. That exemplifies what we mean by Personal, personal banking.”

I think that the presentation by the bank and those involved is a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, until we as the professionals are able to incorporate financial education and common sense money management skills into the classes of young adults in high school, we will continue to have young people who cannot balance a checkbook and apply for credit cards because they get a free backpack.

I applaud Crown Point’s school system for allowing them to make the presentation, as many local schools cannot see the benefit of this type of education.

I also give a lot of credit to Citizens Financial Bank, as I have been a customer of theirs for 10+ years and have been very happy with their service.

Keep up the great work and let’s hope that other school systems will get involved also.
